Teeth Whitening Methods

There are many teeth whitening methods available today that can bring desirable results to those looking for whiter teeth within a shorter period of time. These methods can be performed at home where they are very cheap or even free. They can also be performed by a professional dentist although this method is prohibitively expensive and therefore out of reach to many people. Whether you use the home remedies for teeth whitening or the dentist’s way will depend on a number of factors, the main one being the availability of money to meet the expensive charges levied by the dentists.

Using home remedies would seem to be the sensible thing to do, given that the substances used at home like soda and baking powder are quite easily available and at very cheap prices. However, it is very important to know that some of the teeth whitening methods used at home are not healthy as they deprive the enamel of the calcium it badly needs thereby destroying the gum and enamel.

A common method is to use gel to make our teeth lighter, of which there are basically two ways of going about it. This is either by using low concentration gel or the high concentration gel. Using high concentration gel can be done either at home or by a dental professional. To use this method at home, you need to use highly concentrated carbamide peroxide, which can be found quite easily at dental stores and is generally a much cheaper option than going the office way.

To achieve the whitening of the teeth, apply oxidizing agent in concentrated amounts to the teeth by using thin plastic trays for just a short time before removing. After about 15 to 20 minutes, the trays are removed and the process removed a whole new.

Using low concentration of gel is not as effective as using high concentration and is restricted to home usage most of the time. The process requires a thin mouth guard that will accommodate low concentration of the chemical in the teeth for a longer period of time, usually several hours a day for six to nine days in succession. The results of the process are not homogeneous with some people responding well in a few days while others may realize little or no change at all. Because the concentration of the bleaching agent is less than 10% hydrogen peroxide, there is minimum irritation caused on the soft tissues around the teeth.

Some of these teeth whitening methods may not be effective at all while methods, such as tetracycline staining may take hours on end for any meaningful bleaching to take place. You need to know another method that you can use in case the ones above boomerang.

Another technique that is proven to be among the best teeth whitening methods is the laser bleaching that is also sometimes referred to as power bleaching. This method employs the use of different types of energies although a high energy that is necessary to excite the hydrogen peroxide molecules is the most ideal. Argon laser is used to safely speed up the process of whitening. Because it does not emit any heat and the process takes an average of one hour to bleach effectively.
